This month's Antiques magazine's Editorial celebrates Morrison Hecksher, the Lawrence A. Fleishman Chairman of the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. As most of you know, Morrie is the husband of our own Finella Hecksher. I think Wendell Garrett' s comments bear repeating:
Withal, Morrie is a public man but a very private person, who deeply loves his wife, Finella - a British-born, Oxford-trained, highly gifted pediatric endocrinologist - and reveres his friends and colleagues more than all his achievemments and accolades.........But perhaps the places he loves most passionately are his nineteenth -century Gothic revival weekend house up the Hudson River near Newburgh (which he has been in the process of restoring for several decades now).......
Morrie was presented with the 2011 Award of Merit by the Antique Dealers Association of America on April 9. Those of us lucky enough to have had his
guided tour of the new American Wing last year know that Morrie is a fascinating gentleman who happens to be married to our intriguing member, Finella! Congratulations!
